In honor of Mexican Independence Day, California State Assemblyman Pedro Nava spoke to students at the Campus Center Thursday.
This event marks the first in a series to be sponsored by the Multi-Cultural Events Program.
The program was started a year ago and usually hosts two to three cultural events a month. “Students can really learn a lot about other cultures and even their own cultures when they attend these events,” said Griselda Sanchez, head of the multi-cultural events program.
While no dates have been set for October, the program will sponsor a harvest festival, a Spanish play with English subtitles, a Day of the Dead celebration, and a Danish cultural festival.
The program also will sponsor the Durantes Lecture in October, when Victor Villasenor, author of the acclaimed novel “Rain of Gold,” will speak.
