Cross country qualifies for SoCal finals

The City College cross country team competed at the WSC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 24, in San Luis Obispo with the men’s team placing fifth out of 13 schools and the women’s team placing seventh, which qualified them to compete in the SoCal Championships in Antelope Valley on Friday. While the overall team did not do as well as expected on Friday, individual members of the team celebrated their success as they further met the requirements for the State Championship. Sophomore Carly Harris placed 18th overall in the women’s 5k run with a time of 20 minutes and 53 seconds. Freshman Mark Moreno completed the men’s 4-mile run in 23 minutes and 34 seconds, placing him 33rd overall, and freshman Chris Simpson took 76th with a running time of 24 minutes and 12 seconds. “Our goal is for all three athletes to [place in] the top 25, and we feel pretty good about that,” said head coach Keith Kephart. The State Championship will take place November 18th in Fresno.
