City College men’s volleyball team came up short once again Friday night, swiftly losing to the Long Beach College Vikings, who stand at the top of the Western State Conference. The Vaquero losing streak is now stretched to six in a row with their overall record standing at 1-10 overall, and 0-4 in conference play.
The Vikings routed the Vaquero squad in only an hour, dominating all three games.
Although City College came out strong in the game they were just out-classed by the savvy Long Beach team.
“In game one we used a lot of things we have been talking about in practice,” said coach Donal McGraw. “They just didn’t think they could win.”
The first game came to a close with the Vikings winning 30-24.
The second game was utter domination by the Vikings as they took a quick ten-point lead that was never relinquished. Long Beach cruised to a 30-17 victory over the tired Vaquero troop.
“We struggle putting them away,” coach McGraw explained. “We just can’t seem to get the upper hand when it counts the most.”
The final stanza was yet another blowout as Long Beach dominated the pace of the game, 30-19.
The losing habits of his team hasn’t got Head Coach Donal McGraw down. “I’m optimistic about the rest of the season,” said Coach McGraw. “The players put out the effort we ask, they just have to find their winning edge.”
Curtis Oliver led the City College offense with 10 kills, team mate Chris Deem had eight, and setter Mana Guerriero aided with 23 assists.
