The cell phone and small battery recycling service still continues on campus at several locations.
“The battery recycling service started about two years ago and the cell phone recycling about one year ago,” hazardous material specialist Carlos Campos said.
The goal of this service is to collect and minimize the waste. “We’ve already had about 1500 pounds of battery diverted,” Campos said on the success of the campus service.
He added, although the battery recycling is limited only to teachers, the option to recycle cell phones is open to everyone. Some of the cell phone drop-offs are located in the Administration building, the Campus Bookstore and the Selmer O. Wake Center on Turnpike Road in Goleta.
The IDC building, Cosmetology Center, Weight Center and the Facilities and Operations building are several of the battery drop-off locations on campus.
