Vaquero baseball cruised past defending state champs of Long Beach City College in an 11-2 preseason victory Thursday afternoon.
In his first collegiate start, pitcher Bryce Uhrig went seven strong innings allowing only three hits and striking out 11 batters.
“The most important thing Bryce did was shut them down in innings after we scored,” Head Coach Teddy Warrecker said. “His pitching really allowed our defense to play well.”
City College had a great day at the plate, belting three home runs, one of which was a grand slam off the bat of Ryan Morford.
“They had a guy throwing hard out there and we were able to show good patience against him to get the hits we wanted,” said Warrecker.
Vaquero baseball continues it schedule at home, 2 p.m. Friday evening against Canada College.
