The City College Concert Choir will be performing material from popular musicals “West Side Story” and “The Sound of Music” in their final concert of this semester on May 13 at the First United Methodist Church.
“Honestly, the audience will love all of it. It’s basically a concert of highlights,” choir director Nathan Kreitzer said. This is Kreitzer’s first semester leading the class, as well as the first time he has organized popular Broadway hits for a performance.
The choir, set to perform at 7 p.m. will also be performing medleys from “Oklahoma,” “Music Man,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “South Pacific.”
The concert will showcase several soloists in the choir. Alana Guevara, a member of the choir, said that she is excited for the performance. “The class is enjoyable because it brings different people together, young and old,” Guevara said.
The choir holds a big concert at the end of every semester. Most recently, they performed Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” last December with an orchestra and soloists. This concert was all in Spanish, and featured guest conductor Vance George of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. The concert was broadcast over a local Spanish television station.
The concert is on May 13 at 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $6 for students and seniors. Come enjoy City College singers.
