CD Review – Pearl Jam – Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam goes back to the basics in their self-titled eighth album.

Long time fans will be glad to know that after 4 years out of the studio, the band has returned to the sound that blasted them into grunge-super-stardom in their 1991 debut album “Ten.” True to form, Pearl Jam retains their trademark gritty guitar dominated sound going up against the smooth pipes of lead singer Eddie Vedder.

At 41, Vedder is still spirited in his delivery of such teenage-angst tracks as “World Wide Suicide” and “Life Wasted.” But perhaps, at times, a bit less convincing with tracks like “Marker in the Sand.” Overall, the band still rocks hard. With the new album Pearl Jam has confirmed themselves as the most permanent of the early 90’s grunge movement. The album is a throw back to the sound as it was: dirty, angry, and rockin’.
