The Vaqueros track team made a great impression last weekend at the Regional Prelims, where most of the team advanced to the Southern California Championships.

“I think the team is doing well competing in this level of competition,” said coach Keith Kephart. Most of the men had qualified to make it to the regional finals.

Alex Jeppson jumped 14 feet in the pole vault, leaping over all competitors into a first-place finish. Niko Barbas also finished first in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Guat Vallejo-Howard threw 132-7 in the discus.

Three of the Vaqs’ women advanced to the finals.

“The team is doing great, we are coming a long way from when we first started,” coach Kephart said. “The people who are going to be competing in the finals I think can advance.”

The Vaqs will compete Friday at Mt. San Antonio for the Southern California Championships.
