The City College softball team was eliminated from regionals Sunday at Cuesta, after a second loss in three games.
The double-elimination, round-robin qualifier for the California Community Colleges State Finals was taken by home team Cuesta, who led the division all year. They will represent the Western State Conference in the state championships.
“Overall we did really well,” City College coach Paula Congleton said. “We were competitive and we didn’t go out in two games.”
The Lady Vaqs lost the first game against Fullerton 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh. The next game saw a reversal, with the Vaqueros beat Mesa 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Finally, the Vaqs played a grudge match versus Fullerton, dropping the game 6-2. “They got a few hits and we just couldn’t stop them,” Congleton said. This was the first trip to the regionals for City College.
“We are proud of everything we have accomplished this year,” said Congleton. “And we’ll just add on to it next year.”
