CD Review-Prince-3121

Prince, the hypersexual being who has toyed with many styles of music, has released his latest album, “3121.” The first song on “3121” grooves and squeaks by wonderfully along side the elasticity of a vocoded Prince. The album has several ballads, and a few songs approach the grounds of disco and hip-hop. “Black Sweat” has an effective beat and whistling synthesizers, and the sound compliments Prince’s voice well. The interesting moments of the album are few, however, and there are many forgettable tracks. “Satisfied,” for example, sounds like a lesser version of Beck’s “Debra without the irony.”

Many of the melodies are merely marginal, and do not warrant the extended amount of time they are built around, like “Get on the Boat.” Although this record does have some purely Prince moments, it is hurt by the inclusion of some average music.
