After being heard on the final episode of “Six Feet Under,” Sia has captured people’s attention with her soulful, pain-oozing soft voice. However, the Australian singer’s US album, “Colour the Small One,” doesn’t live up to expectations.
Although Sia gets lucky with a few songs that marvel the same brilliance as her single “Breathe Me,” the rest of the alternative folk songs leave the listener disappointed. Her inarticulate voice is intentionally muddled on many of the album’s 16 songs to invoke some sort of emotion from the listeners. The only emotion I felt after straining to hear her muted voice was frustration of having paid good money for songs that sounded like they were sung by kindergartners.
The album is boring and has no variety, which is proof that Sia lacks the talent to stick around much longer.
