With the release of a third album called “Underdog World Strike,” Gogol Bordello has created a new niche for itself-a wild mixture of punk rock, Eastern European folk, ska, world-music rhythms, electronic, and dub reggae, which the band calls “gypsy punk.” Singer Eugene Huetz is a Ukrainian immigrant who came to New York to play music and act. He recently co-starred in the movie, “Everything Is Illuminated” with Elijah Wood. “Underdog World Strike” sounds like someone intoxicated the Sex Pistols with vodka and backed them up with a Polish wedding band. With songs like “60 Revolutions Per Minute” and “I Never Wanna Be Young Again,” Huetz unleashes his opinions about the new generation. Rumor has it his live show is one of the wildest experiences known to man. This record definitely screams “party!” and I know next time Gogol Bordello plays in this area, I’ll party with the band.
