Death Cab for Cutie’s latest album “Plans” is dark, yet uplifting and inspiring. As someone who has never seriously listened to Death Cab, I can say that they make an incredible first impression. From the first song, Death Cab makes a statement with smart lyrics and excellent production. From the heartfelt love song “I will follow you into the dark,” to the introspective “Brothers on a hotel bed”, Death Cab covers a wide range of the emotional spectrum with clarity and honesty. Instead of sticking to the stereotypical guitar, bass and drum trio, Death Cab utilizes the piano with clever electronic and supplement beats. Death Cab captures the emotional roller coaster perfectly and the CD flows together like any solid album must. At times the listener wishes the band would mix up their sound by throwing in a slightly more fast-paced song, however their nearly perfect album will never play itself out.
