City College will not offer a flu vaccine this year due to a nationwide shortage of imported medicine.
“It’s not just Santa Barbara, this is a national issue,” said Susan Broderick, director of student health services.
“On our campus it’s not much of an issue…we’re promoting ways people can stay healthy without vaccines,” said Broderick. “Not everybody gets the flu that’s not vaccinated.”
Flu clinics in the community will serve as the alternative to campus vaccinations. They key is washing hands. Broderick advises flu victims to stay hydrated and allow the body to rest. These simple procedures will interrupt the spread of disease and allow the body to recover faster.
