The volleyball team powered back to beat the Santa Monica Corsairs Wednesday.

After losing the first game 25-30, the Vaqueros battled their way through a number of game-points to win 33-31.

The Vaqs out-spiked, out-blocked and out-served Santa Monica 30-19, 30-27.

This victory puts the Vaqueros at 4-3 in the Western State Conference and 7-6 overall.

Coach Melody Parker was pleased with the team’s spirit. “We are much stronger than Santa Monica was,” she said.

Santa Monica’s Dragen Ivanovic picked up a yellow card in the third game after apparently cursing at the referee in another language.

The Vaqueros take on Long Beach at 6 p.m. today and then travel to LA Pierce College on Friday.
