Weekly news update transcript

Hey guys, I’m Mac, your Channels Editor in chief, and this is your weekly channels update. To start things off, here’s Megan Randolph with the news.

Thanks Mac!

In case you missed it, one of the Student Senators was removed because he failed his physics class in spring.

Story continues below advertisement

The rule in their constitution is confusingly worded, but basically requires senators to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a semester GPA of 2.0. The semester requirement is what resulted in his removal.

Here is Josh with his take on the situation.

I agree with what they’re saying that we’re here to be students, its true, we’re here to be students and transfer and go off into the next world, pretty much from here, to become whoever we are to become but um at the same time, I actually didn’t fail that class because of the Senate, I purposely failed the class so I could retake it.

Also, in case you’ve noticed, parking can be hard to find at this college. There’s a new program that will give students prizes and incentives for not driving to school. You can sign up online and log your commute, which will automatically apply towards the monthly incentives.

If you carpool ten times to school, don’t forget to bring your carpool passes to the Security office under the bridge by Oct. 23rd for a refund.

Here’s Landon with Sports

Thanks Megan.

Tuesday’s soccer game was the first game to display the new video scoreboard at La Playa Stadium. The scoreboard cost $350,000 with $150,000 coming from Union Bank. For more information on the scoreboard see Megan Tonti’s story on the channels.

Now here’s Megan Roberts with opinion.

Thanks Landon!

This week, we have a column written by Chris Platt about his personal experiences with the party scene in Santa Barbara. As a local, he gives us an interesting perspective into the wild nightlife of city college students.

Also in opinion this week, Anna Navin writes about human trafficking around the world. With millions of victims affected by this tragedy worldwide, this is a massive issue that affects more people than you would think.

Stay tuned for next week’s update!
