With high ranging vocals, Leona Lewis debuted in the United States with her first album “Spirit.” Her first single, “Bleeding Love,” is a breath of fresh air and captures listeners on pop and R&B radio stations.
Besides her first single and the track “Yesterday,” “Spirit” is a typical R&B album. Most of the album is bland and carries no personality; it is drowned in synthesizers that hide her booming voice.
However, the 21-year-old really lets her voice soar in “Yesterday.” The high notes Lewis reaches make you think of other bellowing divas such as Mariah Carey. Lewis can definitely sing, but somehow the producers arranged the album to conceal her magnificent vocals.
Other than “Bleeding Love” and perhaps “Yesterday,” no other tracks are worth your money.
