On Feb. 15 members of the Student Labor Action Project, led by Shawn Tallant helped organize an anti-war rally dubbed “Teach out for peace” in response to the University of California Santa Barbara’s student strike for peace.
“Pro-peace is anti-war, just another way of saying it,” said Katie Murray a member of SLAP.
Teachers were encouraged to hold their classes on the West Campus lawn and then listen to a mix of speakers.
The speakers included Tallant, some veterans, a UCSB student named Cricket, who started the movement with a meeting of three people in her kitchen, a City College professor and a City College student who fought in Iraq.
A crowd of about 30 people, mixed with students and staff gathered to listen to the speeches.
After the speeches the crowd was urged to join the protest at UCSB that ended up in a procession down Highway 217.
