The Channels won 34 awards Saturday at the Journalism Association of Community College’s conference for Southern California at California State Univerisity in Fullerton.
“We believe we always serve our community very well. But it is gratifying to have the students’ journalistic skills validated by professionals,” said Susan Deacon, interim journalism department chair and adviser to The Channels.
The competition had three categories: mail-in from last year, bring-in and on-the-spot.
Of the 29 schools that competed, City College was third in total awards behind Southwestern College with 36 and El Camino Community College with 35.The Channels won in the overall categories of General Excellence and Online General Excellence, taking home a total of five first-place plaques.
