Green Day returns with their latest effort, “American Idiot,” complete with their classic sound and a couple of surprises.
The album kicks off with the title track “American Idiot,” that’s all over the radio right now . It’s the usual fast and catchy Green Day single. The placement almost throws the listener into a false sense of security that makes the nine-minute epic, “Jesus of Suburbia,” feel even more amazing. Though the Green Day I remember is known for quickies like “Basket Case,” the change of pace is nice.
A few tracks failed to stand out, including the other nine minute big boy, “Homecoming,” that just couldn’t hold my attention.
But Green Day fans shouldn’t hesitate about getting “American Idiot.” There’s a lot here that will keep it spinning for some time.
