Club promotes safe Spring break

The 10th annual “Safe Spring Break Event” and “Chalk-It Up” event sponsored by Project HOPE will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 17, on West Campus.

The day is designed to build spirit, provide information about community resources, and encourage students to be involved in positive activities over Spring Break.

“This event is about educating students,” said Lauren Wilson, Project HOPE student coordinator. “We want to do it in a way that’s fun and gives useful information.”

Information about making healthy life style choices will be provided to students.

The sidewalk chalk event contest will be held from sunrise to 3:00 p.m. with cash prizes. Students can sign up to participate no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday in Student Health Services.

In addition, free food and activities will be held. The radio station KJEE is coming to provide music. There will be games, and a raffle drawing with prizes.

The Humane society, Goleta Valley Athletic Club, MADD, Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center, UCSB Adventure programs are among the few in attendance.

“So much of the community and local businesses are lending their support for the students,” said student coordinator Linsay Sawzak. “Every student should plan on attending.”

Project HOPE wants students to take advantage of this event to learn about the many positive opportunities that are provided around town.

“Don’t just walk by,” Sawzak said. “Come and see what we have to offer.”
