A letter of warning was issued to a student on Feb. 23 after he left a threatening note on the dashboard of his car.
The note was directed towards a City College security guard. The student, who could not be named, left a note in his car calling a student security officer “a dick.”
After reading the note, John DaFoe, head of campus security, and Lead Security Officer Erik Fricke responded by approaching the student after class. According to the student, the officer had given him two parking tickets that week for having his parking pass incorrectly attached to his window.
According to DaFoe, it was then explained to the student that what he had done was not only against the student code of conduct, but also against the law.
“The kid was very apologetic,” DaFoe said, “He realized what he had done was stupid.”
DaFoe then administered a letter of warning for breach of the student code of conduct.
According to Dafoe, the student had broken section W of the code of student conduct, which involves the use of “fighting” words or non-verbal symbols directed at an individual that are obscene.
“He was given a copy of the letter and told that if we had no further contact with him this semester that it would be discarded and not go on his permanent record,” DaFoe said.
“I was 19 once, I know what its like,” said Dafoe. “The kid just made a bad decision.”
DaFoe refused to give the name of the officer whom the note was directed towards, saying “The student security staff are subjected to a significant amount of verbal abuse.”
DaFoe said he did not want to put one of his staff in the position that he may be subjected to more abuse.
