Students wishing to sound off about the proposed Designated Smoking Area policy are invited to step up to a mike.
An open microphone will be set up in the Free Speech area outside the Campus Center. Between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., today and tomorrow, smokers and non-smokers are invited to share their ideas and thoughts in an informal debate.
The policy would designate specific areas on campus where smoking is permitted. Eight such areas are on the main campus and four on the west campus, most in parking lots. The rest of City College would be smoke-free.
Alternatively, City College could simply follow the new state law that prohibits smoking within 20 feet of a building.
The public forum was proposed by Associated Students senator Rose Ladanyi to obtain student feedback before the senate issues a recommendation.
