Swedish team captain leading lady golfers to success

Carin Erndy comes from a long line of golfers, so it is no wonder that she picked up the sport at age three.
Erndy grew up in Sweden where she could only play golf three months out of the year. When it was time for her to go to college, she knew one thing-she wanted to play a bit more golf than the Swedish seasons allowed.
Two years ago, she contacted City College coach Chuck Melendez about playing for the lady Vaqueros, Erndy said.
Last year she was the team’s most valuable player and this year’s top player, Melendez said.
She is also captain of team.
“We are doing good this year,” Erndy said.
Melendez agrees.
“This is the best group, talent-wise and work-ethic wise,” he said.
The coach has every reason to be proud. This season Erndy shot a 74, leading the team to City College’s first victory over Western State Conference Champions College of the Canyons.
The team is also holding tight to a playoff spot this year.
“Currently we are in second place, and that is where we need to be to make our playoff goal,” Melendez said.
Last year, the golf team did not make it to the playoffs. However, Erndy represented City College at the regional tournament.
This is Erndy’s last year playing for the lady Vaquero golf team. She will remain at City College through the spring semester.
Her future plans include a change of scenery. Erndy is considering colleges in both Oregon and Florida.
She plans to get a degree in architecture.
“She is an excellent student,” Melendez said. “She’s an outstanding student-athlete.”
