The California Community College Athletic Association named City College’s men’s basketball team a finalist for the State Team Scholar award for 2012 Spring sports.
With the team’s average 3.28 GPA, the Vaqueros are being recognized for having outstanding grades.
Thirteen of the 18 student-athletes on the team have at least a 3.0 GPA. Six students have a GPA of 3.75 or better, and two students have a 4.0.
“That’s an exceptional accomplishment to have that many guys who are performing at such a high academic level,” said head coach Morris Hodges.
“People need to remember these are student-athletes. There’s big time commitment for basketball and they also have to manage their academics. That speaks volume about their level of commitment.”
