Sam Shipley announced his commitment to the University of Maine earlier this month, ending a hectic recruitment period for the City College leading tackler.
Shipley, a proud father and husband, plans on leaving for Maine the first week of June. He is still attending City College this semester.
University of Maine plays in the Colonial Athletic Association Conference. Teams from that conference have gone to the Football Championship Subdivision championship game seven of the last eight times and have won four of those title games including last years winner the University of Delaware.
“They have coaches already lining up housing for us as far as being able to live in student housing at first, until we get to know the area, if we want,” said Shipley. “You know, like I said finding a doctor for my son.”
On top of its great football program, Maine also decided to help find Shipley’s son a pediatrician and offered to help his wife find work in the area.
“Obviously if my family is taken care of it makes my transition to football a lot easier,” said Shipley. “I talk to the coach a couple times a week and to this point, their counselors and advisors took care of me academically as far as dealing with my transcripts and making sure everything’s transferred.”
