The Vaqueros suffered their first home loss 2-0 in the last regular season game against Ventura on Friday.

City College was coming off a three game wining streak until they faced the Western State Conference’s top ranked team, Ventura.

The Pirates scored twice in the first half. They capitalized on a free kick 31 minutes into the game, and then ten minutes later added another score.

Domenichelli said her team planned to come out strong in the second half, but unfortunately Ventura was too much to handle.

The Women’s soccer team has had a breakout year this season, as the notorious goal scorer Jessica Domenichelli has notched 21 goals so far.

Domenichelli will have an important role if City College makes is to the playoffs.

“Jessica is super quick, and very composed on the ball,” sophomore Margot Valenzuela said. “We did pretty well this season but I expect a little bit more.”

The Vaqs’ finished second in the Western State Conference, and they are currently ranked no. 7 in the Southern Cal power rankings. The team must be one of the top eight seeds to remain in playoff contention.

Both Domenichelli and Valenzuela are confident about the upcoming playoffs despite not knowing the teams they will potentially face.

“We have the talent to win in the playoffs if we keep our focus all the time,” Valenzuela said.

The pairings for the playoffs will be revealed on Tuesday, and the first round for City College will be on Saturday Nov. 20.
