City College men’s soccer team wins another nail biter

The Men’s soccer team battled back from a 1-0 deficit against Glendale on Friday, as freshman forward Pierre Mattsson converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute that cemented the teams 2-1 victory.

Coming into the game, the Vaqs hadn’t conceded a goal since august 31.

However, the team found themselves down 1-0 after Glendale scored a goal in the 60th minute.

A goal by another first year player, Rodrigo Perez, put the Vaqueros back in the game. Perez’s signature free throw was too much to handle for Glendale, despite having home turf advantage.

In the dying minutes, City College was given a chance to win the game after an infraction was committed against forward Chijioke Aranotu in the penalty area.

Pierre Mattsson showed no nerves, converting the late penalty kick that gave the Vaqueros a 2-1 lead to win.

This was Mattssson’s fourth game winning goal this season, as he continues to shine under Head Coach John Sisterson’s leadership.

City College’s next game will be against the Canyons in Santa Clarita Friday Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.
