The three and a half hour ride from Santa Barbara didn’t keep the Vaqueros’ women’s cross country team from taking 17th place at the SoCal preview at Mission Bay Park in San Diego Saturday morning.
Sophomore Erika Schaeffer placed 19th out of 261 runners.
Schaeffer finished the 5k course in 20 minutes and nine seconds putting the women’s cross-country squad in 17th place overall.
Ayla Granados also had a respectable day, finishing 64th with a time of 21 minutes and eight seconds. L.A trade tech’s Danielle Low won the women’s division with a time of 18 minutes and 44 seconds.
Garrett Edwards, sophomore, finished the men’s 4-mile race in 43rd place. Edwards was one of 334 runners with a time 21 minutes and 54 seconds.
Next weeks invitational will take place at Leadbetter Beach and Shoreline Park Friday Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men.
