City College in running for Western State Conference Supremacy title

City College is currently holding a second place in the Western State Conference Supremacy race, trailing four points behind archrival Ventura.

The Western State Conference Supremacy race was established in 1966, and the Vaqueros have won it four times – 1972, 1973, 1978, and 1982.

Usually schools that offer a large variety of sports often collect more points, City College offers 17 different, one fewer than Ventura offers.

This year, the Vaqs have scrapped 49 points and they are stalking league leaders Ventura.

“I think the teams have done an outstanding job,” said Ellen O’Connor, interim athletic director. “I’m constantly impressed by the players and the coaching staff.”

City College has been known for an institution that strives in sports, and the philosophy of athletic department is always to play at their best.

O’Connor is lyrical when she talks about the performances of the teams and their coaches.

“All the teams are inspirational to watch,” said O’Connor. “Its very tough being a student and a athlete, the time commitment is enormous.”

The players are not only excelling on the field and courts, but some of the players are on the presidential academic roll.

The final results of the Western State Conference Supremacy race will be decided at the end of the season.
