City College Baseball showed flashes of brilliance Sunday, but dropped both games in a double-header against Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
The Vaqueros (0-2) had plenty of offense, but it wasn’t enough to tame the Gauchos (2-1) who beat City College 12-6 and 6-5
In the first game, City College gave up six runs in the fourth inning and the team couldn’t dig itself out of a hole despite a Steven Keller two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning.
Connor Rehage chipped in with a solo home run while Sam Johnston and Taylor Lyons had two hits each.
The second game yielded similar results.
Abe Ruiz slammed a solo home run in the fourth and Tommy White went long distance the following inning, but it wasn’t enough.
Saddleback wiped away a 5-5 tie by scoring in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the lead and the game, 6-5.
The Vaqueros will look to get back on track 2 p.m. Feb. 9 in its home opener against Glendale.
