Women’s volleyball sweeps Riverside

The City College women’s volleyball team swept Riverside Community College 25-23, 25-21, and 25-18 on Friday at the Pasadena Tournament.

After losing their opener against Pasadena, the Vaqueros stepped it up against Riverside and won their first match of the season.

“The first two sets of the game were pretty much back and forth, but on the third set we were comfortable enough to seal the deal,” said head coach Ed Gover.

Returning player Maria Mayer and freshman Jenn Waddill were instrumental to the victory as they dominated and combined for 23 points. In the third set with the score tied at 10-10, Jessica Tune single handedly stood for 9 points expanding the lead to 19-10.

Freshman libero, Case Jenkins, held a solid defense throughout the game and made a big impact for the Vaqueros.

“We played great in the second game and overall it was a good team effort,” said Gover.

The Vaqs next game will be against Gavilan College at SBCC on Saturday Sept. 5 at 1p.m.
