Softball: Women’s season ends with disappointing doubleheader

The City College softball team lost by two narrow margins, 5-3 and 11-8, in the double-header against Ventura on Tuesday at Pershing Park.

The Vaqueros jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first game, but struggled to maintain the lead. In the 7th inning the Ventura Pirates punched in four runs to solidify the victory.

After facing an 8-run deficit in the second game, The Vaqs surged back to make things interesting, but came up short, as Ventura then swept the double header with an 11-8 victory.

It was the last game in a Vaquero uniform for six of the City College players.

“We had an outstanding group of girls,” said head coach Paula Congleton. “We had great team chemistry. Our record doesn’t reflect the character of the girls.”

The Vaqs finished with a 9-15 record in conference play, and an overall record of 13-25.

“It wasn’t about wins and losses, we had a great season,” Congleton said.
