Incident Report – Ticket angers student, threatens lawsuit

March 12

An outraged male student verbally accosted a security officer expressing plans to “sue the college” after he received a parking ticket in the lot next to the Student Services building.

The owner of the vehicle was issued a parking citation at 1:45 p.m., when the meter had expired 25 minutes earlier. The male student discovered the ticket, drove around by the officer in the lot and yelled fighting words.

He then called security at 4:45 p.m. that same day, to complain about his citation. According to the report, the student said he was going to “get a lawyer and sue the college.” He admitted to and apologized for using inappropriate language, but said that the officer should not have ticketed him because he was taking a midterm, and that “he was only a few minutes late getting back to his vehicle,” according to the report.

The Security Office received a call at 2:20 p.m. regarding an alert for a “mentally unstable” male student. The informer told security that the student had not slept in five days, was not taking medications, and that he was despondent, distressed, and may have an outburst, according to the report.

The male student was brought to the Health and Wellness Center later that day by a staff member he had approached expressing he was “feeling out of control and was having aggressive thoughts,” according to the report.

Observed by a nurse, he was described as “very stressed and agitated.”

The student left the building abruptly, and he was not found on campus again. It has been confirmed that he returned home safely, and in a “better state of mind,” according to the report.
