The College Planning Council (CPC) met on Tuesday, Oct. 21 where they discussed a new participatory governance survey results and an improvement to the California City College application.
The first topic the council touched on was the participatory governance survey results. This survey has three main purposes which include committee information, evaluation and training.
For the committee information part of the survey, the results showed that many people were not fond of some websites they use, saying they were “inconsistent” and that they didn’t have any contact information.
The evaluation part of the survey asked people how they usually found out about meeting dates, times and locations. The survey found that most learned about the events through a committee website was 67%, through email 46%, calendar invite 35%, found out on Google Docs wasa 18%, in-person 14%, and other or never found out was 20%.
The training part of the survey focused on the challenges faced by new employees, skills learned and what the transition process was like for them.
The challenges that the majority faced included navigating their time management and being clear on what their role is for their job. Some of the skills learned were communication, being able to resolve conflict and team-building skills.
Many stated that the transition process was somewhat difficult, especially when the orientation wasn’t clear enough.
The survey was sent out to 179 positions, with only 46 responses for a 26% response rate.
“The responses aren’t bad but they could be better,” Academic Technology Support and Network Specialist Ryan Alexander said.
They also touched on the California City College (CCC) application which has been in the process of improvement.
CCC is creating a single application so that students only have one application to fill out for all colleges.
This new application will also allow City College admissions staff to see which students are applying and which students didn’t finish their applications. With this update, they will be able to reach out to students who didn’t finish their applications to see if they need help in any way.
“It’s a very good outreach tool, it’s a very good recruiting tool,” Superintendent-President Erika Endrijonas said.
Although the new application is still in the works, they hope to have it up and running sometime in the near future.
The College Planning Council will meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
