City College administration and the SBCC Foundation will soon release a statement on MacKenzie Scott’s $20 million gift that was donated to City College on June 15, 2021.
MacKenzie Scott received approximately $38 billion in Amazon stock as a result of her divorce from Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos. Starting on May 25, 2019, Scott began a philanthropic platform that has donated over $19.3 billion to more than 2,400 nonprofits, according to her platform, Yield Giving.
Since receiving the gift the foundation has kept the money in an account that is building interest, according to Jordan Killebrew, executive director of public affairs and communications.

City College has yet to allocate any funds since receiving the donation more than four years ago. Killebrew mentioned college leadership changes are a reason for the delay.
SBCC Foundation Chief Executive Officer Bobbi Abram joined the foundation in May 2024 after long-time CEO Geoff Green stepped down. In the same time period, there was also a change of superintendent-president with Erika Endrijonas starting her tenure in August 2023.
In response to when The Channels asked for an interview regarding the money, Rachel Johnson, chief program officer of the SBCC Foundation, said Abram is preparing to release a statement soon and will grant interviews once it’s posted. There is currently no official date for when the statement will be released.
