News

Wednesday, Nov. 13: City College will be hosting award-winning journalist Dr. Marc Lamont Hill for the Leonardo Dorantes Memorial Lecture, where he will speak about “Building Community in an Hour of Chaos.” The lecture will start at 6 p.m. in the Garvin Theatre.

Wednesday, Nov. 13: Phi Theta Kappa will be showing the documentary “13th” to commemorate the 400th anniversary of when slaves were first brought to Virginia. The documentary will discuss the relationship between racial prejudice and incarceration and will be shown at 6 p.m. in Physical Science Building Room 101. 

Wednesday, Nov. 13: Sense and Sensibility, put on by the Theatre Group at City College, will open at 7:30 p.m. The show will run until Saturday, Nov. 23. Showtimes and tickets can be found on the group’s website.  

Thursday, Nov. 14: The Creative Club will be hosting an “Ecstatic Dance – Silent Disco Party” on the West Campus lawn from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature a yogi host and a DJ, where students can dance to music from a pair of glow-in-the-dark headphones.

 

Sports

Tuesday, Nov. 12: Men’s soccer hits the road to battle LA Mission at 3 p.m, while the women’s soccer team takes on Oxnard at 7 p.m at La Playa Stadium. 

Friday, Nov. 15: Men’s soccer takes on Santa Monica on the road at 1 p.m. in the team’s final regular-season game of the year. Back at home, women’s soccer battles Moorpark at 1 p.m. at La Playa Stadium.

Saturday, Nov. 16: Women’s basketball takes on Antelope Valley at 3 p.m in the Sports Pavilion as the Vaqueros look to boost their 3-1 record. Men’s basketball hosts Cerro Coso in its first home game of the season at 5 p.m in the Sports Pavilion. 

Sunday, Nov. 17: Women’s golf heads to Morro Bay on Sunday to play in the first round of the State Championships at 8:30 a.m.

 

Arts and Entertainment

Wednesday, Nov. 13: Sense and Sensibility, put on by the Theatre Group at City College, will open at 7:30 p.m. The show will run until Saturday, Nov. 23. Showtimes and tickets can be found on the group’s website.  

Friday, Nov 15: Los Angeles based artist/activist and assistant professor at Otis College of Art and Design Cole M. James will be hosting an artist talk 10 a.m. at the Humanities Building Room 111. The lecture is free. 

Monday, Nov. 18: City College jazz ensembles will be coming together to perform at the “Jazz Ensemble Concert” 7 p.m. at City College’s Garvin Theatre. The performance will feature all three of the school’s jazz ensembles in their final performance of the semester. Tickets will be sold for $15 general and $10 for students and seniors.
