Student verbally threatens Bookstore employee

Jan. 3 – 3:45 p.m.

Campus Security Office responded to a student who tripped and fell on the last step of a staircase located in the Administration Building. Her right knee was injured. An ambulance was called to the scene and transported her to Cottage Hospital for treatment.

Jan. 4 – 11:30 a.m.

Security Office received a complaint from the Financial Aid Office about a female student who was disrupted while the staff was helping others. Distraught from not receiving money, the woman claimed Financial Aid staff forced her to become a prostitute. She was taken to an administrator and reminded of financial aid procedures.

Jan. 15 – 10:00 a.m.

A concerned student reported a potentially harmful individual who intended to enroll at City College. The student said that the suspect has a history of violence, family drug abuse, and suspensions from previous schools. After this report, security workers screened students and confirmed that the individual is not enrolled this semester.

Jan. 17 – 8:45 a.m.

Security staff responded to a complaint about a homeless man who stole a handful of one-dollar bills from the coffee kiosk’s tip jar. Erik Fricke, director of the Campus Security Office, said workers of the cafeteria have complained about this man several times in the past for harassment and abusive behaviors. Security workers escorted and banned him from campus.

Jan. 22 – 11:00 a.m.

Security workers received a report of threat by a student to a Bookstore employee. The student has a history of being highly agitated to Bookstore employees. He said to the Bookstore employee, “I have to tell you something. There is a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world, like people shooting people in movie theatres and shootings in schools. I could be a crazy person with a gun and start shooting, so you should be nice on the phone.” Though Fricke called the student’s comment “highly inappropriate,” security workers determined he was just upset and didn’t mean to harm anybody. Disciplinary actions were not disclosed.

Jan. 28 – 10:15 a.m.

A security worker saw an individual rolling a marijuana cigarette by the Winslow-Maxwell overlook. He informed the student that smoking marijuana is not allowed on campus under any circumstance, and if he is caught smoking, he will be referred to the Dean for disciplinary action.

Jan. 28 – 3:15 p.m.

Two iMacs worth $1,150 each were reported stolen from the Student Senate Office. Security workers said that the computers were last seen on Dec. 14, and that the items might have been stolen during winter break. There were no signs of forced entry.

Feb. 1 – 9:30 a.m.

Construction workers at the Humanities Building reported a male student attacked on the sidewalk between the Student Services Building and lot 1-A. Officers and workers rushed to the scene but the attacker had fled. The assailant was described as tall with curly blond hair. The victim said he had never seen the assailant before.

 

The Campus Security Office is located across from the Student Services Building. Erik Fricke would like to remind students and staff to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity. Campus Security hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
