Incident Report – Scammers use fake receipts at Bookstore

April 23

At 5:30 p.m. campus security received a report of a male student giving a female student unwanted attention off campus. The male student allegedly followed a female student to UCSB on the bus. The female was encouraged to change her routine and contact campus security if another incident occurred.

At 1:30 p.m. campus security received a call regarding an incident in the Bookstore. John Lorelli, the bookstore director, reported that two men entered the store with fake receipts for the book buy-back. Lorelli reported he did not know the receipts were fake until the men left. The Bookstore has photos of the suspects from the store’s cameras. A total of $693 in fraud was stolen.

At 11:55 a.m. campus security reported that a student who was upset about a parking ticket drove the wrong way through the West Campus Kiosk lane. The driver almost hit two security officers with his white truck.

At 6:20 p.m. campus security received a call regarding a male who was acting suspicious in a classroom in the Administration building. Campus security reported that when a staff member asked the man what he was doing he replied, “just looking around” and left. The staff member told campus security that he noticed a cabinet open with computer parts lying on the floor where the man was standing. The staff member didn’t report anything missing.

April 28

At 10 a.m. campus security responded to student who was injured while playing soccer in the International Soccer Tournament at La Playa Stadium. The City College student suffered an injury to his leg just above the ankle. Paramedics arrived and transported him to Cottage hospital.

At 7:30 p.m. campus security received a report from two students who were receiving unwanted love letters from a male student in his twenties. Both women attend a class at the Schott Center and received letters that were reported as sexual in nature.
