Slight parking fee hike likely

The Student Senate met Friday to discuss parking fee increases, activities funded by International programs, and student senate outreach to a local elementary school.

A proposal to raise parking fees will be voted on Thursday at City College. The $30 fee will be raised by $5 if bought in person or $3.50 if purchased online.

Student senators believe the proposal will pass, as senators have received a positive response from students polled during the past few weeks.

The Student Senate also met with Carola Smith, senior director of International Programs, and Rosalvina Vidal-Ayers, Housing and Activities coordinator, to discuss ideas for the upcoming Global Exchange and Awareness Week.

This event will take place April 20-26 and will include various activities such as a fashion and talent show revolving around the celebration of various world cultures.

Smith explained that Global Exchange week would be a “great way to get students involved in global issues.”

Reinstating an abandoned program, the Student Senate is working with McKinley Elementary School to start a sponsorship between City College student senators and McKinley students.

Each month top students from McKinley will have the opportunity to have lunch at City College with student senators who would talk to them about leadership roles.

In addition to these three topics, the student senate discussed club grants, campus committees, and reviewed three applications to fill the final senate seat.

The Student Senate will reconvene 10 a.m. Friday in Campus Center – Room 223 on East Campus.
