CD Review- Humbug

British alternative rock band Arctic Monkeys has reached international success with the albums “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” and “Favourite Worst Nightmare.”

The third album, “Humbug,” was released in the U.S. on Aug. 25. The 10 songs sound much different from the two previous albums. They’re darker, and received a mellow and acoustic character.

The opening “My Propeller” is a disappointment, but fortunately the album gets much better.

“Fire and the Thud” is absolutely amazing, with a nice acoustic guitar and beautiful lyrics: “The day after you stole my heart, Everything I touched told me it would be better shared with you.”

The lyrics do some fantastic storytelling, something that fans are used to from previous albums.

Other enjoyable tracks are “Potion Approaching” and “Secret Door,” and they sound like a way for Arctic Monkeys to try on the new, more adult style, something that will take some time to get used to.
