BRIEF – Theater department mourns loss

City College student Jacquilynne Kristina-Rose Dunn died in a tragic accident on Thursday, Aug. 27. She was 20.

As a freshman majoring in theater and arts/music, her family said her ambition in life was to use her creative talents to find ways to reach out to people and make them feel more connected.

“It’s a catastrophe when someone that young dies,” said Tom Garey, academic chair of department of theater arts, said.

Her teachers said she was excited about learning theater and becoming an actress. She was growing as a student, Garey continued.

Dunn was a Santa Barbara local, and attended La Cumbre Middle School and Santa Barbara High School.

Dunn studied theater and it was the major focus in her life. In 2006, through the Academy of the Healing Arts, she wrote and starred in one of her very own plays that performed at the Center Stage Theater.

Dunn wrote hundreds of poems, short stories and a book not yet published.

Everyone is invited to attend a flag-lowering ceremony on Thursday, September 10, at noon in front of Luria Library on West campus.
