Brief – Faculty lecturer to speak about nursing Thursday

This year’s recipient of the faculty lecturer award is nursing instructor Karolyn Hanna. Her presentation, entitled ‘Legacy of Our Past and Challenges of the Future,” will take place at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Sports Pavilion.

Hanna has been a professor at City College for 29 years and a nurse practitioner for more than 40 years, holding a master’s degree in nursing and a doctorate in education.

The Faculty Lecturer Award is City College’s highest honor bestowed upon a teacher. Voted on by students, the recipient delivers a special lecture.

“It must be what Miss America feels like,” Hanna said.

Taking the audience from the pioneers of nurse practitioners to the devoted individuals who serve our community today, Hanna will discuss the hardships and accomplishments Cottage Hospital and City College have overcome together over the last 121 years. The college expects more than 400 people to attend.

The event is normally held in the Garvin Theatre, which is currently closed for renovations. Holding the lecture off-campus proved difficult, due to cost.

Hanna explained that in this budget climate, the costs involved made any off-campus venue cost prohibitive.
