Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit’s self-titled album captures the ear from the first listen.
Released Feb. 24 by Lightning Rod Records, this album goes down like smooth scotch. Filled with bright steel-string finger-picking and southern rock storytelling, this record deserves the well-received attention it’s getting.
One of the best songs on the album is “Cigarettes and Wine.” The perfect companion to an evening alone with a bottle of Jack, the melody seduces the senses, while the lyrics surprise with unpredictable rhymes sprawled against a landscape of creamy rich vocals.
“The Blue” will have you swaying slightly in your car while tapping out the Alabama-inspired Americana beats on your steering wheel.
