Freshmen Pierre Mattsson saved the night for the Vaqueros when they visited Oxnard last Friday, keeping the team’s six-game winning streak alive.
The men’s soccer team is red hot, 7-1 overall, as they have battled their way through the Western State Conference.
Hard working midfielder Mattsson had the highlight of the game when he curled in a free kick from 30 yards out in the 14th minute to give the squad a 1-0 lead.
The game didn’t have plenty of scoring chances, as the Vaqs concentrated on keeping possession and counterattacking.
Salvador Orozco almost doubled the lead in the 70th minute, but his shot hit the post.
Assistant coach Paul Hart was pleased with the way the Vaqs defended, as they tallied another shutout, making it their sixth straight game without allowing a goal.
